We had another fantastic week with our 5th grade crew – two boys and two girls. We had knives and cutting boards for each cook, so everyone had their own station as we first assembled the grilled cheeses and later chopped up the colorful veggies.

Our new student, Adrian, was a very eager chopper! He is used to using a knife at home. Neither he nor Lily were excited about mayonnaise, so we cut down the amount in the dip, and by the time Adrian and Nelania measured out all the spices and Lily mixed them in, everyone loved it – especially Lily. We had enough veggies and dip leftover to send some home and even share with a few 8th graders nearby who wanted to try them. They were in awe that the 5th graders had made such delicious food. One of our cooks rated the meal “one billion” on a scale of 1 to 10.

The highlight of the day was learning about – and trading – shells that Miss Julie (Hunter) had brought them from the NJ beach.
