We had a great class this week! Everyone came prepared and ready to cook. We are noticing a whole new level of self-imposed teamwork. The two fifth graders, John Clark and Zion Isham, are pairing up to help each other sort, chop and even clean up! And the seventh graders bring some great cooking skills and lots of laughs to the group.
The students all loved practicing their cutting skills on the carrots. A great discussion ensued about how big the carrot slices should be… What is a 1/4 inch and how can you cut your carrots equally? Miss Julie brought in some parsnips, which were quite intriguing. We cut them and added them to the carrots. Spoiler alert: the kids loved them!
The frozen cod fillets from Shop Rite were perfect.(Best of all, they didn’t smell!). We had a good discussion about the benefits of eating fish. They loved mixing the topping and spreading it onto the fillets.
When we sat down to eat, everyone was astounded at how good everything tasted.
And, best of all, there were no leftovers!
“It [the fish] was good, but when I ate the carrots they were the best thing that I ever had. And I ate everything off my plate.” Ivan Rodriguez
”The fish was badda boom. I liked the vegetables. The first time they tasted like Burger King fries.” Zion Isham
