We enjoyed a fun last class and party that captured our focus on staying flexible as we had to change the day to accommodate more student-cooks and ended up celebrating with fifth grade friends.

It all worked out, and the friends were impressed with the meal, as both tables gave double high-fives to rate it a “10.”

We decided to make spaghetti, meat sauce and hand pies again – and improved on some tiny mistakes made the first week, when the foil on the baking trays stuck to the pies. This time we used parchment paper, with much better results. The meat sauce also seemed easier the second time, especially because all four cooks like chopping onions, even when it makes them cry. And we loved the smell of the onions and garlic cooking in the pan. The girls mostly worked with Miss MC on the sauce while the boys worked with Miss Colleen on the hand pies.

We had a few leftover to send home to impress our families. Everyone is sad the cooking class is ending – but loved the experience and learned a lot!
