“This soup is delicious!” exclaimed Jadeara Sumter as she finished her second bowl of chicken tortilla soup.
The students showed off improved knife skills and more kitchen confidence as they prepared the soup, guacamole and chips. When asked how much they thought it cost to feed eight of us today, guesses ranged from $34 to $75. They were astonished to learn that it actually cost less than $17. That led to an enlightening conversation on the health and financial benefits of preparing your own meals versus take out food. It was a lesson students promised to share with their families.
