Our first session was full of surprises. Dylan Barker was surprised that he liked blueberries, having tasted them for the first time. Tasiya Felder was surprised that we would be sitting down to eat together every week. And Zion Jewell was surprised that he could take the program book home to try recipes out for himself.

Our new student chefs listened attentively as materials, jobs, and safety were explained. Then granola baking and parfait layering were underway. We even tried our hand at carving strawberry roses, just to be fancy.
