This week, students learned how to politely describe tastes they didn’t enjoy. One student, Brave (our pickiest eater), initially called the fish “nasty,” but we redirected the discussion by having students use alternative adjectives like “dry,” “acidic,” and “salty.” Though the fish wasn’t a favorite recipe, we gained valuable experience: learning to describe tastes verbally (and politely), practicing our knife skills, and following a recipe.
The students were disappointed there wasn’t a sauce for the fish, which led to a fun conversation about what they would pair with it (tartar sauce was the unanimous choice!). Before class, we emphasized the importance of cleaning up after last week’s challenge motivating everyone to pitch in. This week, though, everyone enthusiastically took turns washing dishes, and the whole class ran much more efficiently and smoothly.
