Since there were essentially three recipes to cook this week, we paired our six students up and had two work on each. There was a lot of cutting and chopping of fruits and vegetables. When making the strawberry shortcake, Ms. Jennifer brought a tool to help make the dough but Aubrey said “I want to do it with my hands so y’all know I made it with love”. We also reviewed leveling our baking ingredients so the proportions are exact as well as how to use the measuring cup.
I wish I could say that the cheesesteaks were a hit. The teachers certainly liked the recipe, but the students had more mixed reviews. Some wanted to eat the veggies alone without the bread and cheese, while some just wanted the bread. We had a great time making it and I loved seeing how great the students knife skills have become!
