This year’s FreshRX: A Prescription for Health on Oct. 30 has already attracted top experts in the health and wellness field from around the country. “We have a tremendous lineup,” says Ann Hoskins-Brown, SCFC’s FreshRX program director. “Our keynote speaker is Roberta Friedman, director of Public Policy at the Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity at Yale University.”

Friedman will be focusing on the new guidelines that have defined obesity as a disease by the American Medical Association, as well as other hot-button issues impacting the health of kids and families today.

Other nationally known speakers attending our annual symposium include: Monica Chierici of New York Academy of Medicine and Toni Liquori of School Food FOCUS – both in New York City – as well as David Jones, Jr., of Chrysalis Ventures and Humana, and Frank Martinez Nocito of the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance and Anim Steel of Real Food Generation, both in Boston.

Local representatives from Philadelphia-area health and wellness hospitals and organizations will also play an important role in this year’s symposium, with experts from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Enterprise CDC, Fair Food, Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger, Gwynedd Mercy High School, Healthcare without Harm/Common Market, Investing in Ourselves, LaSalle University, Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital, St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, Temple University and the University of Pennsylvania scheduled to speak about a range of issues, including obesity, food as medicine and the latest research into nutritional and oral health.

“During this one-day event, we will be tackling some of the most critical discussions about health and wellness in the country,” says Hoskins-Brown. “Not only does the event speak to what we work to achieve every day for families at risk in North Philly, but the trends that are shaping our modern health care system and life expectancy. It’s one of the few events in the country of its kind.”
